Gyeong-po Beach
 

Gyeongpo beach, well known for its clean white sandy beach, crystal blue sea and beautiful pine forest around, is regarded the best resort in the east coast in Korea. Gyeongpo beach is 1.8§° long and 1.4§´ wide. In summer hundreds of thousands of tourists come to enjoy the festivals and events on the beach every day and night. Gyeongpo beach attracts people not only in summer but all the year round. Thanks to the well-preserved nature and modern facilities, Gyeongpo beach is loved by Gangneung citizens and visitors as well.

 
   
Gyeong-po-ho(lake)
 

Gyeongpoho is the lake area with Gyeongpodae(pavilion) nearby. Along the shore, many historical pavilions are scattered. Gyeongpo beach and thick pine forests make the scenery more beautiful. Recently Chamsori Museum opens beside the lake. In the center of the lake is a pavilion on the rocks which is the resting place for many birds. Long ago, the lake was 12§° in circumference but now it is only 4§°. The name Gyeongpoho means a lake whose surface is still and clear like a mirror. Gyeongpodae is a pavilion close to Gyeongpo lake. It was regarded as the best of Eight Sights of East coast region. Standing on a hill, Gyeongpodae commands a fine view harmonizing with sea, beach, lake and pine forest. There is a romantic story about the five moons which can be seen only on Gyeongpodae. You can see the moon in the sky, the moon in the sea, the moon in the lake, the moon in the wine glass and the moon in the lover's pupil.

 
   
Adeulbawi Park
 

Many newly-married couples visit this place because of a legend that an old childless couple bore a son after 100 days' prayer to the rock. The rock is thought to have been under the sea in Jurassic period, one hundred and fifty million years ago. The rock is believed to have risen by diastrophism.

 
   
Ju-mun-jin Harbor
 

Jumunjin is the most lively harbor in the east coast. Various kinds of fish such as squids, pollack, herring and anchovies are caught because cold and warm ocean currents are exchanged in the neighboring sea. Jumunjin harbor attracts more and more tourists nowadays thanks to the expanded road network, abundant fishery products raw and dried. Tourists are satisfied with the hospitality of the local people and vivid atmosphere peculiar to the harbor and fishery market.

 
   
Heonhwa Road
 

The name of the road is derived from the legend of Shilla Dynasty. Lady Su-ro was on the way to the place where her husband worked. She admired the beauty of the flowers on the cliff and asked someone to pick them for her. When everybody was hesitating, an old man dared to climb the cliff and picked the flowers for her. Giving her flowers, he sang and danced. The song, Heon-hwa-ga, still remains. Heonhwa means dedicating flowers. The road is newly opened between Jeong-dong-jin and Geum-jin. The road is so close to the sea that you can be hit by the surf. It is the best driving course where you can see the sea, strange looking rocks, cliffs, various wild flowers and small fishing villages.

 
   
Daegwallyeong Recreation Forest
 

It is the first recreation forest in Korea and located on the east slope of the Daegwanryeong. It is 200m to 1,170m above the sea level. In the forest there are pine and oak trees over 200 and 300 years old, fantastic rocks and stones, clean and clear valleys and waterfalls. It is equipped facilities such as camping ground, meeting room, pavilion, field training course, swimming pool, wooden bridge, physical training course, hiking course, wide lawn ground, education center, etc. It can accommodate 1,000 people a day.

 
   
Sogeumgang
 

Sogeumgang, a part of Odaesan National Park, is named after Mt. Geumgang because of its beauty. Soegumgan means little Geumgang. It is famous for the magnificent views. Visitors admire the cliffs with strangely-shaped rocks, valleys like clean mirrors, several hundred year old pine trees. Climbers fill the trails every holiday and weekend. Festivals and events are frequently held in this region.
